Lisa was enjoying the single life with her girlfriends before Jeff
came her way. Yes, its true, after some prompting from a close,
unnamed friend <okay, whatever….it was Jessalyn> she wrote a profile
on a local dating website and a short time later accepted a smile from
a particularly charming and interesting guy named Jeff. It turned out
that we only lived about 5 minutes away from each other and had one
too many things in common to ignore! Jeff’s got a good summary of our
first couple of dates but I think what really got his attention was
when I excitedly accepted his date to go see a Vancouver Canadians
baseball game so that I could impress him with all the stuff I knew
about baseball after having spent my entire youth at baseball parks
watching my dad and brothers play since I was 5 years old. I’d say we
had pretty good chemistry from the start and moreover, I felt that I
was patriotically serving my country by improving international
relations by dating an American! Jeff made me laugh on our very first
date and he hasn’t stopped since…
The first correspondence was a couple of e-mails, she was very
playful. The second correspondence was a phone call, her voice
was sexy.
The first date was on August 28th, 2004. We
met at the Chevron at Cambie and W. 16th, the price of unleaded was
86.8 c/L that day. We proceeded onto the Keno Cafe where we
chatted, ate, drank, and listened to live flamenco. I thought
as I stared at her from across the table that she could be the one.
The second date was Ben Kweller at Richards on
Richards. We met at the venue and brought friends for support.
She leaned against me that night while listening to the music.
The third date was practicing with her ultimate team.
The fourth date was a Vancouver Canadians game, a
girl from Canada not only knowing baseball but liking it, what a
dream come true. We kissed for the first time that night
outside of her place, it was short but sweet.
The
fifth date was watching a Zombie movie at her place. I impressed
her by eating a glob of wasabi.
The sixth date was dinner
at The Reef on Main Street. We were embarrassed as we ran into
friends at the restaurant. That night I was right and she was
wrong about a pool hall being located down the street, the 1st of many
me right her wrong.
The seventh date was the end of
the year ultimate party at Mo Butta. We partied like it was
2004...because it was.
..and the rest is history...
