CANADIAN
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR AMERICANS:
Americans are allowed
to enter Canada for 180 days (6 months) without a visa.
However, to be
admitted to Canada and be re-admitted to the US, Americans must prove
their citizenship and there are only 2 ways to do this:
(i) A valid passport
(go here
to get or renew a US passport)
OR
(ii) A certified copy
of your birth certificate and a photo ID (drivers license, etc.).
However, there are
some
new
travel requirements starting in January 8, 2007. They basically say that by air the
only acceptable travel document is a US passport, so if you’re flying
into Vancouver you must have a valid US passport. The certified birth certificate and photo
ID will still be acceptable at vehicle crossings until December 31, 2007,
so if you’re flying into Seattle and riving across you may still use this
document as proof.
Traveling
with minors (under 16): Make sure you bring their birth certificate or other form of
official documentation to prove that you are their parent or guardian. If only one parent or guardian is traveling
with them you should have written authorization, signed before a notary, from
the other parent or guardian.
